On 17 November 2011, Hilath.com has been officially blocked by Dhiraagu due to a request from Communication Authority of Maldives (CAM).

We are fortunate to obtain the email which informed Hilath, indirectly but, that the Maldives was trying to silence his views regarding homosexuality and Islam in the Maldives.

Hilath Rasheed’s official reaction and statement is as follows,

“I am a Sufi Muslim, so there’s nothing on my website that contradicts Sufi Islam. I suspect my website was reported by intolerant Sunni Muslims and Wahhabis. Therefore I call upon all concerned to amend the clause in the Maldives Constitution which requires all Maldivian citizens to be Sunni Muslims only.”
